Follow the city’s story.

From the harbour to the streets of Chinatown, each stop opens another chapter of Mauritius.

  1. 01

    Begin beside the harbour

Meet your guide at Caudan Waterfront. Along the old working harbour, the Granary, sugar terminal and waterfront buildings begin to connect the story of the capital with the story of Mauritius.

  2. 02

    The people who shaped Mauritius

At the Intercontinental Slavery Museum and Aapravasi Ghat, take time for the histories of slavery, abolition, indenture and migration. Your guide brings a human perspective to these places of memory.

  3. 03

    Behind the city’s doorways

Step closer to the small shops where incense, garlands and diyas sit alongside another world of vanilla, spices, lentils and herbs. These are places where tradition remains part of daily life.

  4. 04

The market, one bite at a time

Walk between the Central Market’s fruit, vegetable and spice stalls. Stop for a freshly made dholl puri and a glass of sugarcane juice, with time for the conversations that bring the place to life.

  5. 05

    A mosque, a tea shop, a conversation

The Jummah Mosque opens a chapter on the Muslim community in Mauritius. A nearby traditional tea shop offers a pause for tea, local snacks and stories shared around the table.

  6. 06

    Chinatown and flavours from afar

An old pharmacy, Sino-Mauritian boulettes and traditional Chinese cakes reveal stories of immigration and trade. Continue towards a community-kept pagoda, where rituals remain part of neighbourhood life.

  7. 07

    The city comes into view

Climb to Fort Adelaide, known as La Citadelle. The harbour, neighbourhoods and surrounding mountains come together in one view. This uphill section is part of the walk.

  8. 08

A final chapter through the old city

Return past the old prison and through Company Garden. The Photography Museum and Pem Wood’s gallery offer further ways to read the city, before returning to Caudan.

Your guide adapts the order and visits to opening hours and the life of the city.

When does the walk run?

The usual schedule is Monday to Friday from 10:30 to 14:00, and Saturday from 08:30 to noon. There is no Sunday walk. Choose an available departure in the booking panel; your confirmation gives the time for your booking.

How much walking is involved?

Allow about 3½ hours, mostly on your feet and outdoors, with a climb to Fort Adelaide. The listing advises against this walk if you cannot manage around four hours on foot or the uphill section. Bring comfortable shoes, water, a hat and sun protection.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes for a tropical city walk. Cover your shoulders and knees for the mosque and pagoda. Bring rupees in small denominations for any personal purchases at the market.

What if I have dietary requirements?

Speak with Andeor before booking so the team can confirm which tastings are suitable for you. Ingredients and preparation vary between food stops; do not assume every tasting can be adapted.

Will we visit every stop?

Access to museums, places of worship and the gallery can change with opening hours, religious services and private events. Your guide may reorder the walk or adapt the stops on the day.

Can I cancel my booking?

The published tour policy allows free cancellation until 24 hours before the experience. No refund applies within 24 hours of the start. If the operator cancels, the policy provides a full refund or free rescheduling. Review the terms shown for your booking before confirming.

We’ll meet you at Caudan.
