Match the day to the purpose
For a first look at the waterfront, a Sunday visit can still make sense. For a tightly planned shopping or museum day, check the specific places before committing. Avoid the two extremes of assuming everything is open or that the whole city is closed. Your experience depends on the venues you choose, not just the name of the day.
Know the museum exception
The Blue Penny Museum’s normal published schedule, checked on 29 October 2026, closes on Sundays and public holidays. If the original stamps or its historical displays are your main interest, select another day and check any exceptional notices. A photograph of the museum at Caudan does not mean you can visit its rooms whenever the surrounding waterfront is accessible.
Build a lighter waterfront plan
Caudan brings together cafés, restaurants, shopping and cultural venues, each with its own arrangements. Choose one confirmed food or drink stop and leave time to look at the harbour and the exterior setting. Add another visit only when its opening is established. This makes the day easier to adapt than a chain of stops whose doors you have not checked.
Prepare the return as well
Decide how you will leave before extending the visit. Confirm the return arrangement with your transport service rather than assuming a weekday pattern applies. If the city looks quieter than expected, use that as a reason to shorten the itinerary, not to keep searching indefinitely for the weekday atmosphere in a different street. A smaller, deliberate outing can be enough.
Before you go
Is the Blue Penny Museum open on Sunday?
Its normal published schedule says it is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Does that mean all of Port Louis is closed?
No. Check the individual places you want to visit. A museum’s closure does not establish the timetable of the entire city.
